This is strange. It's not often one wakes to a change in perception like this. Not that I ever have, but regardless.
A means of keeping track of my thoughts? It will be useful, potentially. Interesting.
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:07 AM
I don't know if I'd just call it a place to keep track of your thoughts, though it certainly works for that purpose.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:07 AM
Ah, it seems I am not the only one here
Concerning, but fascinating nonetheless
Welcome to my mind, I suppose
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:09 AM
Hello!
I should clarify that we can't actually see your mind, just the things you put in here.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:09 AM
Ah, good. Thank you for the clarification
What are you, and what is this.....thing, in my head?
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:11 AM
I am a normal person in another world (probably), the thing in your head is some sort of access to interdimensional communication
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:12 AM
Peculiar. I don't remember picking up any artifacts that could do that in my travels. I wonder why it just popped in my head.
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:12 AM
No idea here either
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:13 AM
You seem rather nonchalant about this. I'm guessing this isn't the first time this has happened?
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:14 AM
Yeah
Got connected to other people before. Though usually there's actually an inciting incident rather than the person just waking up with an interdimensional mental chat
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:15 AM
Well, I did just land on the island I've been making my way towards. The magic here can be strange. Might be that's the reason
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:16 AM
Could be, I guess
...strange?
There's nothing like 'you can't leave the island and you're doomed to stay until your sanity abandons you' kind of thing right?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:19 AM
No, no, nothing like that. The Tower is here, and given it's been a century, it's going to open up in the next few days
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:19 AM
The Tower? I'm not familiar with that. Description please?(edited)
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:19 AM
The area outside of it, most of the island, is awash with energy that makes magic much more unpredictable, depending on the school
Ah, apologies
On the Isle of Daggers, there's a massive tower high on the hills. Called the Tower of the End. Once every hundred years, it opens. It's become practically tradition for adventurous folk to come to it, try and survive and leave with as much treasure and artifacts as they can
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:21 AM
And I take it getting this shoved in your head coincides with it opening this time around?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:22 AM
Perhaps. I wasn't here for the last one, that much is sure.
So I'm unsure of all of its effects
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:23 AM
...This probably isn't one of its effects, I'd attribute it to a third party observing your world generally speaking.
But synchronicity is a thing.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:23 AM
I haven't seen this much dust in the air since I went to the southern merchant cities, can barely see.
Ah, I see
Someone seems curious about this time, then.
Which does beg another clarification. The Tower is set, though nobody knows when, to bring the Fifth and final Calamity. The end of the world.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:25 AM
Hm. That definitely implies the time is now, given this didn't happen any time else. Unless this happens to be any time before the 4th.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:26 AM
It's currently 862 4C, the fourth calamity happened hundreds of years ago
Awake23-Apr-21 05:26 AM
(Dhdjdhshdhshdhehd)
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:29 AM
Oh hell.
Well, that's a thing.
SightBOT23-Apr-21 05:35 AM
The town the aged and cracked ship, The Arquil, landed on is just as aged. Old stone buildings, cracked, fortified with nailed planks and wooden beams. Sandy dust covering the streets thick enough the foot sinks into it. The air filled with it, bad enough one can barely see five feet in front of them.
Despite that, the amount of bodies here is stunning. People crammed against, and in, buildings, filling the streets as the ancient town has life breathed into it. The Tower, far off in the distance, hum coming from it audible even here. Soft, pulsing, and seeming to set the nerves on edge for all.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:36 AM
I should have come earlier, clearly. There's so many damn people here.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:37 AM
Hope you can fly, buddy. I don't think walking is an option.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:37 AM
From what I've heard, there's old machines that carry you up the hill to the tower, don't need to climb up to it if you have the coin
I luckily might have just enough coin to manage that when the Tower opens
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:38 AM
Might be worth it to avoid getting trampled to death.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:39 AM
No doubt about that. I'll have to be a bit frugal with my coin, then. I only have around 78 silver left
Hmm. I'm not the only one who sees a 'document' thing here, right?
randomhuman4423-Apr-21 05:49 AM
You are not the only one.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:50 AM
We can see it just fine.
Well, if nothing else, you'll be able to keep track of things.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:50 AM
Yes, that will definitely be helpful
Anyway. We should get down to business.
I ate on the ship, but I suppose the first order of business is figuring out if I want to rough it on the streets tonight or try and find an inn to stay in.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:52 AM
The inns are likely to gouge you for money, given how many people are here now. Of course, you could get robbed on the streets.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:54 AM
Both seem bad for keeping silver on me for the easy ride up.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:55 AM
The question is, which is less bad?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:55 AM
An inn would likely leave me with some coin. Getting robbed would leave me with none.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:56 AM
True. So, inn it is?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:57 AM
Inn it is. I just hope we find a decently priced one.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:57 AM
If it turns out you can't, well, we have a plan B, at least.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:58 AM
At least we have that
I did find an inn, though, luckily. 35 silver, which is steep, but cheaper than some of the ones around.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:59 AM
Still going to have enough for the trip up, assuming that + breakfast?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 05:59 AM
Unsure
Worst case I can always skip breakfast
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 05:59 AM
True.
SightBOT23-Apr-21 06:07 AM
Despite the age of the inn, and the healthy coating of dust in the main room, it seems nice, well-cared for. Lit by blue, coldly burning torches, helping keep the place cool.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:07 AM
Seems to be an argument, among a couple of the other patrons
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:07 AM
Hm. Seems like a pleasant little place, as well. Aside from the argument.
You want to get dragged into other people's business?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:11 AM
I don't try to, but it happens
Alvera StromheinBOT23-Apr-21 06:12 AM
"No! I don't give a single damn about your Cathedral and its 'goals' you refuse to talk about! I don't need some slinking assassins following me wherever I go!"
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:12 AM
They're coming this way. Great.
Can't mistake the accent though. They're from the far west, Heathen Isles
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:14 AM
Well, this is gonna be interesting.
Church-based assassins, though you did get her name apparently.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:14 AM
Seems I did. And yes, that'd likely make him a Flesh Arts user. Which is troubling.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:15 AM
Definitely sounds concerning, even if we don't have the context.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:15 AM
Their magic focuses on the body. Whether an aspect of it or literal.
As an example, some can control their blood, or others, from what I've heard. Some can use their breath as weapons, or control "breath" such as the wind and cause storms, control them
Not the sort of magic users I'd like to fight
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:17 AM
Definitely sounds capital-c concerning.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:17 AM
From what I've heard, using the magic drains them
So I should be fine if I don't become a target.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:19 AM
Well, best to try avoiding becoming one, then.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:20 AM
Good idea. I'll step back and just let them go by, then
Fenric AsvenBOT23-Apr-21 06:20 AM
"My orders are clear. You are not to go to the tower's peak. You can't just-"
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:21 AM
They left, went outside
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:21 AM
Ah, sounds like Fenric's a servant of someone who holds her dear.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:22 AM
Seems so
Anyway, I should get some sleep
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:22 AM
Probably. Rest well.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:23 AM
I will, thank you.
SightBOT23-Apr-21 06:24 AM
The night passes peacefully. The humming of the tower growing louder, more insistent. Like a swarm of bees rumble inside, furious and wanting freedom.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:24 AM
Ah, morning.
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:24 AM
Hope you slept well.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:25 AM
Relatively, yes
The Tower has still not opened, it seems
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:26 AM
It may happen in the middle of the day or something like that. Or tomorrow.
Side note, It's not even been an hour for us, much less 8, so it seems like this chat comes with some time dilating properties.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:28 AM
I've noticed. Time slows to a crawl when I use it
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:29 AM
If I had to guess, the more you focus on it, the slower everything else goes by comparison. Might also be something of a vice versa on our end, the less you're focused on it the faster things go for us.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:30 AM
That would make sense, if 8 hours passed so quickly
The tower not opening does raise an issue though, coin
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:31 AM
Could look for some odd jobs while you're here.
I'm sure there being this many people around has thrown a monkey wrench in someone's operations.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:32 AM
Very true. They probably have a job board in some of the local taverns, adventurous folk have an odd habit of congregating there
Well, there's a job board in this one, but not many jobs left
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:35 AM
Least it's something, yeah?
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:35 AM
Clear rats in an inn's cellar for 15 silver, or deliver a package for 10
It's something, yeah
Limina Idling | Hours23-Apr-21 06:36 AM
Delivering a package sounds quick and easy, the rats thing may have rodents of unusual size.
The TravellerBOT23-Apr-21 06:36 AM
Those are a myth
But good point, a package should be simple
Malaki24-Apr-21 06:37 AM
...idk i've seen some fuck off huge rats
Lucky_Plucky2124-Apr-21 06:37 AM
True
Like the RODENTS
Malaki24-Apr-21 06:38 AM
Worse part is when they get a taste for human flesh, did you know several tests were done on rats that found they prefer the taste of human flesh?
Lucky_Plucky2124-Apr-21 06:38 AM
Ye
It’s actually disturbing and explains a lot of dishonored
Malaki24-Apr-21 06:39 AM
Humans are just naturally tasty to the little bastards
